Girls Swimming Underwater

Additional Information

COVID-19 UPDATES: The state mandate of masks in public places is currently no longer required (this is subject to change at any time). If you would like to wear a mask at our facility, you can, but we will not be requiring spectators to wear a mask this summer. We will do our best as instructors to space students apart when possible, but instructors and children cannot wear masks in the water. Some children may also require physical contact to learn skills. According to the CDC “there is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools and hot tubs. Proper maintenance, and disinfection (e.g. with chlorine and bromine) of pools and hot tubs should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.”

DROP OFF/PICK UP: Please be on time when dropping off and/or picking up students. We do not want your child to miss the safety topic/target skills for the day and since we run back to back lessons our instructors are unable to watch your child outside their scheduled class time.

PARKING: You are welcome to park in the driveway, the street, or the church parking across the street. This is a residential property, so please be considerate of neighbors and respect everyone's personal property. Please do not block trash cans on Tuesdays because it is our scheduled trash day.

ILLNESS: Please do NOT send your child to swimming lessons if they have a fever, cough, diarrhea, vomiting, or any other symptoms of illness. Make ups will not be done due to illness, however, if an illness prevents your child from attending more than half of their scheduled classes we will do our best to reschedule for another session.

CANCELLATION POLICY: We will teach through rain/snow and only cancel lessons if there is lightening. Please follow our facebook page for updates. If lessons are cancelled due to weather, we will hold make ups at your scheduled lesson time on Friday the same week. We are unable to provide make ups for illness or scheduling conflicts. If you need to cancel or reschedule your classes, we require at least 2 weeks notice from the scheduled start date for cancellations. There is a $5 fee per child for each session canceled or rescheduled. If you would like to sell the lesson yourself to receive full amount, please notify us by email with the contact information (name, age, and phone number) of the individual filling the spot.

SAFETY RULES: No running, dive only in 9 feet deep, feet first down the slide, do not stand on thin metal by diving board, no roughhousing, and no peeing in the pool. Children WILL NOT be permitted to enter the pool until invited in by the instructor (they will be shown where to wait on the first day). If someone is not enrolled in lessons, they will NOT be permitted to enter the pool (even feet) during swim lessons. It is distracting to our instructors and increases liability. We also ask that you please watch your children on the playground equipment (ex: swings and trampoline) and don't allow them to or stand or jump on the furniture.

ONLINE WAIVER: You will be emailed a waiver at the time of registration. This must be printed, signed and returned on the first day of class before your child can may enter the water. You can use one sheet for your whole family and please sign at least one waiver per calendar year (ex: 2020/2021/2022). If you do not have a way to print at home, we will have a copy for you to sign.

PARENT SPECTATORS: We are no longer limited to a certain amount of people at our facility, so we welcome parent spectators if you would like to come. Viewing classes allows parents to know what skills are being taught and continue to practice skills at home.  As you watch, please do not interrupt classes to talk with instructors. If you have concerns or questions, please talk to our instructors after class or email Fawcett Swim School.

BATHROOMS: Please take your child to the bathroom at home prior to swimming lessons. If your child cannot wait, there is a portable toilet in the garage and a lock on the door for privacy. You may also use the restroom in the house if needed, and we ask that you please go inside when you have to go poop (we appreciate this when we clean the portable toilet)

WHAT TO BRING? We encourage children to wear rash guards when possible to keep our pool filters clan and running properly. If you need sunscreen, please apply at least 10 minutes before your lesson time only to areas exposed to the sun. This allows better protection for your children and prevents clogging of our filters. Please also bring a towel to dry off, especially on a chilly day. If your child wants/needs goggles, please make sure they bring their own and they are adjusted to their face. The instructors do not want to waste class time adjusting goggles.

CUBBIES: We have a set of cubbies that children can use during lessons. All their belongings can fit in a cubby so they do not get lost and hopefully return home with them after class. This will be shown to students on the first day of lessons and allow seating to be clear for spectators.

HELPFUL TIPS: Crying, screaming, and struggling children is not out of the ordinary, especially with younger swimmers. Let us know if there are certain recommendations you would like us to try. Many children do better when their parent either leaves or watches from a distance.

WHAT IF LESSONS ARE FULL? Our classes (both private and group) tend to fill up very quickly. Registration will begin on March 1st every year. If the class you want is full, you can email us at: fawcettswimschool@gmail.com with the information for the class and we will add you to our wait list. Please also like and follow our facebook page to receive updates.

CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES: We teach both private and group lessons which allows different settings for various children. It is usually significantly quieter during private lessons and less children are in the pool. Private lessons might be the better choice if your children struggle with loud noises or too much sensory input. Other children may do better in a group situation with peers as role models. Let us know if we can help in your decision for what is best for your child. Our group lessons have specific skills we must teach as part of the American Red Cross Program. During private lessons we can focus on the skill/skills your would like your child(ren) to learn.

UNDER THE AGE OF 3 (only with private lessons): If your child is signed up for private lessons and under the age of three, they are required by the state of Utah to have three layers: Pool diaper, diaper cover, and swimsuit.
